England versus West Germany, 1966
England won world cup 1966 but it was full of controversy. 2-2 game moved to extra time. But the controversy began with English striker Geoff Hurst who smashed the ball goalward but the ball hit the German bar and appeared to bounce either over the line or exactly on. Eventually England did smile when the Soviet linesman Tofik Bakhramov, who awarded the goal.  In death bed Bakhramov was asked how he was so sure it was a goal and he gave the one-word reply “Stalingrad,” referring to the bloody World War II battle in which 750,000 Soviets died.

Hand of god: Maradona, 1986
When England faced Argentina in the 1986 quarterfinal, the memory of Falkland was still fresh. So it was a rather emotional game.  In the 51st minute, Maradona used the “Hand of God” pushes the ball over the head of English goalkeeper into the back of the net. Though it was a clear handball and Maradona should be punished by Tunisian referee. Instead referee awarded the goal and broke England heart. Since then world media relentlessly talking about goal (hand of god)

Once again Maradona caught the spot light in 1994 when he was sent home because of ephedrine doping.  The incredibly popular footballer around the world left the tournament in tearful eyes. Because of using drug Maradona has suffered a lot. He was about to die. But his close friend Cuban president Fidel Castro helped him to survive.

Zineine Zidan single handedly gave France the very first world cup triumph. He treats like a national hero. But in 2002 he could not control his temper in final match. When an Italy player hurled some abusive language towards him he instantly gave a head butt to materazzi. Consequently he was showed red card. Without Zidan France had to play almost half of the game and in the end lost the match in penalty shootout.
